Janasaukhya is a Registered Charitable Society, carrying out humanitarian and developmental activities among the poor and the marginalized people in Wayanad District of Kerala State, India for the last 24 years. Our major focus is children and their wellbeing.
Founded in 1984, the Society is now creatively responding to the ever-growing humanitarian needs in a globalized world, characterized by amnesia of the poor and the marginalized. The Society believes that the resources required to address the needs of our less fortunate brethren are available within and around us, provided the good will and the philanthropic mindset of the people of good will everywhere are properly tapped.
The services of the Society with major focus on children and women are manifold:
In 1984 we started our work with basic health education to women in rural villages and children in schools. With the motto “Our health in our hands”, the strategy adopted was to reach the community through the school children.
The following major campaigns were carried out with Central government assistance and voluntary support focusing school children:
- School health clubs
- Environment and Ecology
- Water conservation and sanitation
- Traditional systems of medicines and non-drug therapies
- Education for all children
We also make available:
- Support and Assistance to Children/Families in emergency situations.
- Relief and rehabilitation operations in natural calamities /disasters.
- Psychological, social, spiritual and legal support to victims of injustices, human rights violations, and communal riots.
We started a new program under the name and style Guardian Plus in 2008, to support poor children for their quality education. The Biblical story of Cain and Abel (Gen.4/9) inspired us to launch this program. When Cain took away the life of Abel, the Lord intervened raising a question. ‘Where is your brother Abel?’ Cain’s response was a question, – ‘Am I the guardian of my brother?’ – not the desired answer!
Through this program we are answering the question evaded by Cain, saying: ‘I am the guardian of my sisters and brothers, and I want to be a life giver”. We seek Guardians for poor children to provide for their English medium education up to 12th Standard. |
